Louis Beside Himself

Author – Anna Fienberg

Age – 10+

Louis loves words. He loves their meanings and sounds and writes his favourites in a notebook. His father despairs as he tries to teach Louis wrestling moves passed down through the family – just in case Louis might need them some day to protect himself.

When a teen runaway breaks into their house, Louis’ uses of words escapes him and he ends up hiding her in his tent in the backyard. As he and his friends get to know Cordelia, they hear why she ran away and it’s Louis use of words that comes to her rescue.

Louis is a wonderful character, telling his story whilst flexing his forever growing vocab, and explaining the meanings as he speaks. A story of friendships, and father – son relationships.
