Edward Tulane is part china, part wire, part rabbit fur. He was crafted especially for a little girl called Abilene who loved him with all her heart. He has sets of beautifully handmade clothes and is treated like a member of the family, going everywhere Abilene goes, except for school. She rushes home to him every day, but he doesn’t return her love. He really just doesn’t care.

One day aboard a grand ship, Edward is torn from Abilene and his life changes forever. He soon becomes a companion to a fisherman and his wife, then a hobo and his dog, then a boy and his sick sister. His fur is gone, and so have his fine clothes.

Strange things happen to his insides too. Edward Tulane begins to feel things. Things like Appreciation, Sadness, Fear and Despair. And most important of all – Love.

Years have passed. Will he ever see Abilene again?

Another classic tale by Kate Dicamillo, with beautiful illustrations throughout. The people he meets along his miraculous journey made me smile, cheer, and also broke my heart. Simply Beautiful!
