Maui is sick of listening to his older brothers boasting about their fishing exploits. They say they will catch the biggest, the fastest, the meanest or the longest, but Maui vows to catch something even better. When they laugh at him he’s determined to prove himself and one day he hides in their waka (canoe).

Only discovered when it’s too late to turn back, the brothers are angry, blaming him for their bad luck that day. But Maui isn’t finished fishing – things are about to get interesting….

This fun retelling of one of New Zealand’s favourite Maori legends uses te reo (Maori language) and current kiwi slang to bring it to a whole new generation of young readers.

The illustrations are vibrant, colourful and worth searching for hidden treasures. See inside the front cover for english/te reo words for items in the book.
