There’s lots of excitement in Peggy the Pug’s home. Her best friend Chloe is auditioning for a part in her school play, along with her friends.
At first, Peggy is proud of Chloe when she gets a key part in the play, but suddenly all of Chloe’s time is taken up with practicing lines, homework and more lines. She doesn’t have any time left for Peggy.
After watching a favourite segment on a TV morning show with her family called Star Pets, Peggy can see that animals can be stars too. She sets her heart on it. The perfect opportunity arrives when there is a call for the part of the dog Nana in the play. Peggy’s audition goes really well until something arrives that is too hard to resist. Instead of a calm, ordered audition, the hall is complete doggy chaos!
Missing spending time with Chloe and just when she thinks all is lost for doggy stardom, a huge opportunity drops right in her paws. Now she can show her stuff! Her time to shine goes horribly wrong, or so she thinks. Suddenly fame is hard to handle. All she wanted is more time with Chloe!
Peggy realises the best place she should be on opening night is at Chloe’s side – not on stage for everyone else to see. She cleverly figures out a way to do both.
This junior illustrated chapter book is one in a series of stories about Peggy the Pug and her adventures among daily life. She understands her family’s speech, but they only hear her barks, often misunderstanding her. I wonder about our own doggy friends and what they try to tell us in different situations.
There are many threads to this story with an overall theme of fame, whether on stage, TV, or the internet, showing the truth behind the smooth running of things we see on stage or a screen, and the actual work and truth behind them.
Peggy the pug is funny, clever, and incredibly loyal to her family. A great story for any animal lover or seeker of fame. Is what you see on your screen the real story?
