Sapling Green has a secret, and she hides it in her pockets. She doesn’t feel like she fits in at school – especially around noisy, bright and boisterous kids like Wynn. He is always climbing the school tree surrounded by friends, all having fun, while Sapling watches from a distance.
At home however, she doesn’t have to hide her secret, bringing her green thumbs out to tend her plants lovingly and grow new ones.
When the school tree is suddenly out of bounds after a storm, Sapling can see Wynn’s distress, all his laughter and bounce gone. Maybe Sapling and her secret can help? With kindness, green thumbs and a little magic, Wynn is back to his exuberant self.
A story for the quiet children in a group or classroom environment, who are unsure how they fit. Often it is hard to connect with loud, boisterous children if you are naturally quiet and shy.
Sapling Green allows young readers to see how she found a place in the group just by being herself. She might have had a little magic, but helping a young child find a little courage to approach or connect like Sapling does, it can make a world of difference – being almost magic!
