Would you like to be an adventurer? Pearly Woe would like nothing more than join her parents as Adventurologists. Pearly is in training and is talented with languages and even understanding their special pet Pig. Why is Pig special? He has a super snooper. So super in fact that someone famous has come looking for him.
This person encounters Pearly’s parents on the way to find Pig, and they refuse to sell him to her. Things go terribly wrong from there and Pearly receives some cryptic messages from her Mum and Dad. Pearly is a chronic worrier and while she’s worrying, Pig is in danger. As she tries to save him she suddenly understands her parent’s messages. They were saying HELP!
Now Pearly knows she must save her parents, Pig and now herself too. She and Pig are on board a boat to Antarctica with an evil woman in charge. Pearly can’t understand why this woman needs Pig, but she does know it’s not for anything good.
Again, Pearly begins to worry, imagining how everything and anything can go wrong while she is trying to save her family. She must break through her wall of worries and leap into action. If only it was that easy!
A wannabe adventurer, a kidnap, pignap, penguins and a polar bear. A Great Hairy Beast and a dastardly villain to outwit. What does this impeccably dressed and made-up woman want Pig for? Why does she have a photographer follow her everywhere, even onto the ice? And why oh why does she need so much lipstick!
Pearly Woe is a likeable character who not only has all this to contend with, she is her own worst enemy. Putting her debilitating worries and wild imagination aside to get the job done is the hardest thing of all.
A fast-paced adventure for younger middle-grade or tween readers.
