A troll, a ghost and a witch hang out together but are competitive on how horrible they can be.The Baddies Book Review Cover

When a girl moves into a nearby cottage, the terrible trio can’t wait to pull their nastiest tricks on her. Again they bicker on who will scare her the most and who will go first.

One at a time they take their turn.

The troll goes first. The witch is next, and finally it’s the ghost’s turn.

This girl is nothing like those they have terrorised before. It’s as if they aren’t even horrible at all, leaving the girl smiling no matter how scary they can be.

She might be small, but her courage and goodness defeats them all. And then when someone is in need her kindness shows through too.

Villains don’t always win.

A fun, new hardback with dustjacket from the well known and much loved duo of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. In full colour from cover to cover with entertaining and depictive illustrations, this story shows traditional Baddies being shown up by the goodness of a little girl.

We can all be brave, no matter how big or small we are, and a little bit of kindness goes a long way too.

As always Julia Donaldson’s rhyme and rhythm is perfect, making The Baddies a joy to read. Littlies will love see The Baddies being beaten one by one by nothing more than bravery and a genuine smile.

  • I think the theme is kindness may always conquer – in a funny, but definitely spooky way. Maybe is best for younger school age children

  • This book sadly is not very good. The story line doesn’t end properly they just randomly go to an ogre. The pictures and characters are unnecessary evil and frightening. Why introduce chain banging ghosts to a child? Totally unnecessary. A real shame. I hope they don’t make this the christmas one. Better suited to halloween
