Lulu the Lemon doesn’t want to get up today. It’s raining, and she just can’t face school and other people right now. Luckily she has a teacherThe Lonely Lemon Book Review Cover who is keen to convince Lulu that it’s not so bad out there.

All Lulu wants to do is hide, but Miss Mango has other ideas. She shows Lulu all of the cool things about school and the exciting activities she can join.

It all seems too loud, too clever, too rough. Lulu was just too shy. Would she ever make any friends or was she right all along? Will she be better off alone?

But wait! Hang on! There might be something Lulu can join in with. Yes! It’s perfect. She’s found other fruit who enjoy what she enjoys, and when they accept her straight away she can hardly believe it. She is good at something and has fruit that care about her.

The Lonely Lemon is for all the children who don’t feel like they fit in anywhere. This wee lemon just can’t seem to find others who will accept her just as she is, and wonders if it’s just easier to remain alone. But with the help of a teacher she finally believes in herself when she realises others believe in her.

“The Lonely Lemon is part of the Fruit Salad Series, which teaches the importance of gratitude, self-acceptance and emotion regulation, with a focus on building resilience and positive self-esteem.”

The illustrations are bright and in full colour, and the rhyming text is clear and easy for young readers.

More books covering children’s emotional challenges will follow.
