Nine chickens in a tree, soundly sleeping as the sun begins to rise.
The rooster lets them all know it’s time to get up, and they hop and flutter down to the ground below. But they’re missing something. Where are their eggs?
Off they strut, looking for the eggs that look like them. There are spotty hens, zig zag hens and some with triangles. Some have stars, splotches or squares. Can each mother hen find their own nest?
Slowly but surely as they spread out through the farm, the town market and even into a barn dance, each hen finds their matching eggs. They settle down, leaving the other hen mums to keep on searching. There are nests under trees, in haystacks and window frames. There’s even a nest in someone’s shoe!
Each mother hen finally finds their matching eggs and they can finally relax. But not for long! CRACK!
It’s now time for their eggs to HATCH!
Nine chickens turn to dozens, and they do look like their mums – sort of. Each chick is different – just like people!
This hardback is a bright and very busy book! Beginning with a peaceful scene of a new sunrise and sleeping hens in a tree, a rooster soon launches the hens and reader on their way right into an activity of Hatch and Match.
Each hen must find their own nest of matching eggs, but these pages are a riot of colour and movement. Young readers must pore over each page to help the feathered mums find their nest.
There is so much to look at on every page, as the reader is taken inside, outside, high and low.
A perfect ‘sit on knee’ or ‘lie on floor’ activity for littlies 3+ and a perfect Easter gift!
