Corpse is lonely on her rock that isn’t there. That is, it’s there, until you look away – and then it vanishes from your mind. A Girl called Corpse Book Review Cover

Corpse once had a friend called Girl but now Girl has gone and Corpse knows it’s her fault.

There are others on the island, but Corpse avoids them. They are witches by the names of Gorflunk, Scraggleknee and the most powerful – the Worst Witch. Corpse has watched them for decades, and has picked up a spell or two. These spells are going to save her life more than once over the next 24 hours.

Life? Well actually Corpse is already dead. She’s a ghost that has built herself a body out of candle wax and seashells, but still wants to know how she ended up on the rock in the first place. Who are her family? Are they waiting for her in the town called Elston-Fright that Corpse can see across the bay? If only she could get there to find out?

When Corpse receives a spectral message from a stranger ghost, she knows she must begin her search.

This story takes place over 24 hours and is a non-stop search for answers. Corpse must face witches, a weird sea monster, a child snatcher and the truth, not only about her family but of herself.

Corpse also learns about true magic that can defeat any evil thrown at her, and she wields it well.

This is a rollicking read full of action, fun and the wealth of friendship, with a likeable character that realises along the way that she wasn’t so likeable before. Such an imaginative story!
