They’re back in a brand new episode – No. 38! After 60 years, we meet the series’ first female heroine, Adrenaline.
The daughter of a famous chief, Asterix and Obelix are given the difficult job of minding her. The Romans have been trying to snatch her and her father’s ceremonial torc that she wears around her neck. Our heroes of this series think this will be their easiest mission yet, but quickly realise that such assumptions are dangerous. This teenager with all the sass, sarcasm and spunk of the real thing, with a rebellious nature to boot, is a handful.
Navigating Adrenaline’s friendships and fiery feelings, Asterix and Obelix are feeling out of their depth and are hilarious as they try to keep tabs on her, while being inconspicuous as possible. Obelix inconspicous? Impossible.
Unbeknownst to them all, someone else is watching Adrenaline….
This graphic novel series has a world-wide following. This is the first I have read since being a teen myself, so I appreciated the character introductions on the first page.
The hilarious names and clever word play throughout the story made me laugh, and the tale satisfying. Modern issues (such as body image) are portrayed through the characters, making my connection with them even stronger.
The new author and illustrator (last 3 books), have kept close to the original format after being mentored by the original artists.
