Maker’s breath! This final book in this Sci Fi series flings the characters far and wide across the galaxy – some even into other time zones.Auroa Cycle (3) Aurora's End Book Review Cover

Aurora and Kal and his evil father the Star slayer (who is a trigger like Auri) are on the Star Slayer’s ship wondering why they’ve been torn from the battle with the Ra’Haam.

Tyler is found in his 40’s, with an eye-patch and looking like the space pirate he is accused of being by his own beloved commander. Tyler is now commander of his own ship and crew, who have spent their lives fleeing from the Ra’Haan.

Scarlett, Finian and Zila are caught somewhere else in the galaxy. They attempt a return to home but when they die over and over and over, returning to the same moment they woke from, again and again again, they realise they are in a time loop. Why and how to get free of it is their new challenge. They finally discover the reason but a huge sacrifice must be made if they are to escape it.

None of these three groups know where the rest of Squad 312 is, or if they are survivors of the battle that tossed them far from one another. Courage, sacrifice and ultimately love, bring them back together.

Pulling multiple times together from centuries apart, is a fantastical feat of mind-bending plot manipulation. Characters Scarlett and Finian keep up the sass-factor in this final episode, as they get to know each other better. Tyler has his own ‘getting to know’ of Kal’s ruthless sister Saedii. Learning Kal and Saedii’s back story is illuminating, and Tyler’s courage awe-inspiring. His mission is all but impossible but his determination, frustration and humour is entertaining and increasingly gripping as he alone seems to know the entire galaxy is under its biggest threat.

I did wonder how the crew of Squad 312 would ever finally get back together. The time conundrums were tricky to navigate, but fascinating to read. The conquering of the Ra’Haan is unexpected, so prepare for that surprise.
