Missing!Barney the Horse and other tales from the farm Book Review Cover

A lamb is missing. The class has counted and recounted but the farmer is sure. One lamb has wandered off. They set off to find it, one boy straying just a little too far, just like the lamb.

Bird Boy

Matt hasn’t been away from home before. Even though he loved picking wild berries (and eating them), tasting beans from the vegie garden and feeding the pigs, he’s a little homesick.

The one thing that helps is the birdlife around Nethercott Farm. Matt loves birds. His favourites are the swallows and watching a nest full of new chicks. Little does he know he will be incredibly important for one hesitant young swallow.

Go For It!

Horses have always been in the family. Grandma’s dad had a milk run with a horse called Barney. Grandma herself was a stable-hand, but unfortunately never allowed to be a competing jockey, no matter how much she wanted it.

Going to Nethercott Farm finally gives the youngest in the family the opportunity to be around horses and fall in love with them too.

Michael Morpurgo and his wife founded Farms for City Children in 1976 – giving urban children the experience of milking cows, feeding sheep, brushing horses and interacting with other animals and nature. The children stay at the farm over a number of days with their class and teachers.

Three stories are included in this wee collection of animal tales. They are all set on Nethercott farm – part of the Farms for City Children Organisation.
