What the flying fart? thinks Lucy when strange things begin happening around her small town. People are vanishing without a trace! Not to mention her strong belief there are aliens and maybe even a Bigfoot in their woods.
Sticky Pines is famous for its sweet tree sap that is the life-blood of the town. This sap is taken to a factory that employs many of the residents, including Lucy’s father, and made into a sweetener.
Now there is a new owner of the factory. Mr Fisher seems friendly enough, but Lucy’s inquisitive, curious streak makes her suspicious. Mr Fisher’s son Milo is now in Lucy’s class, and besides his constant immaculate appearance, he is normal enough.
It’s only when Lucy sees and takes a photo of something large and hairy that things quickly spiral out of control. Holy. Flippin’. Crudballs, thinks Lucy as she aims her camera. This is it. She finally has proof to show all the non-believers in town.
But what she sees is not what she thinks, and someone is after her evidence…
I loved the main character’s (Lucy) spunk and determination to prove the weird goings on in her beloved little town. Like a super sleuth, she digs and digs and explores and wonders at the mystery, to get the answers she needs. Complete opposites, Lucy and a new boy in town (Milo) build a rocky friendship as they unravel the clues to something so big, even Lucy struggles to believe it!
First in a series, to be followed by The Thing at Black Hole Lake.
