The 100 pound note is too good to ignore.
Kit watches his elderly neighbour wave it, as she explains the job he must do. He knows Mrs Mason likes him, or she wouldn’t offer him the cash, but her terms might just be too difficult.
He must deliver a freshly cooked roast turkey across London, in a tartan shopping trolley. As if the thought of pulling that granny trolley along with him in public isn’t bad enough, he must take his ex-best friend Hamza with him.
Kit is still mad at Hamza for stealing something of his, and Hamza is the last person he wants to spend time with, let alone split the 100 pounds.
But 50 pounds is better than none, so with strict instructions to Hamza to not speak to him, they set off.
Nothing is smooth about their journey, with crowds, bomb threats, muggers and more. Meanwhile the turkey is cooling, and it must be hot when it reaches it’s destination.
Teen mates Kit and Hamza are authentic and funny as they rush to complete a delivery task with the promise of cash if they do it in time.
London streets offer many stops and starts and even dangerous interruptions along the way, with an unexpected ending.
Clear chapter headings countdown their errand, and the line and paragraph spacing, dyslexic friendly paper and font, make Cold Turkey a great read for dyslexic or reluctant readers Aged 11+ with a reading age of approx 7+.
