Coney enjoys doing his job as a road cone. It’s exciting being amongst the workers, the grumpy drivers, the equipment and even the stones flicked up by cars.Coney Book Review Cover

One day after work has finished, he heads home with his road cone mates on the back of a truck. All is fine until the truck hits a pothole! The truck bumped, Coney flew, and thump! He lands on the road. When he opens his eyes he has no idea who or what he is.

He begins to explore and on his travels he tries to be many things he sees around him. Is he a cow? Nope. A bird? Nope. A carrot? No! Soon he meets something that looks just like him. It’s orange, the same height, and also lost. They figure they might be more successful in getting where they are supposed to be – together.

But together they cause even more confusion, and getting home looks even less likely.

Have you ever wondered what happens to lost road cones? Or how they ended on the top of a flagpole, up a tree or alone on the side of the road? Coney is the book for you.

The adventures of a road cone with amnesia takes a young reader (or listener) down roads, flying through the air, selling cold drinks and turkey rustling! It’s only when the road cones work together that they solve their problem – getting back on their truck. Some however, have found other joys in life…

I laughed out loud in the reading of this brightly illustrated picture book. It puts a whole new lease of life on the road cone mysteries of New Zealand.
