Greg is terrible at sports. He’s known this for a long time, no matter how much his mum has told him it’sDiary of a Wimpy Kid (16) Big Shot Book Review Cover about trying and trying again, until he finds the sport for him.

He used to like sports, way back in pre-school. It was great running around the field and not caring which goal the ball went in. Greg’s opinion changed as he got older, when whistle happy referees would stop the game, usually every time he was anywhere near the ball.

His dad would bring home library books about sport for Greg to read, but it really wasn’t his thing. As a family they watched the Olympics non-stop, but Greg’s favourite bits were the bloopers.

An upcoming School Field Day brings sports mania to the school, with everyone involved including the cafeteria ladies and the janitors/caretakers. Greg’s team is terrible, but he doesn’t mind as in the end the whole school receives the same treat as the winners.

All this talk of sports excites Mum again and she tells Greg if he tries out for a school basketball team and doesn’t make it, she won’t bug him again about sports. Problem solved thinks Greg. Unfortunately it proves to be problem extended – at least for him.

It doesn’t matter what he does, everything is a disaster – until he saves his team from being the worst basketball team in the state. Hang on a minute, which team is he on?

Another funny collection of diary entries and observations from Greg Heffley. This time he shares his disastrous relationship with sports. From very young, right up to a competition for the very worst basketball teams out there, he’s the star in dozens of epic failures.

His patient, ever-loving and ex-basketball playing mother is his driving force, never giving up on Greg. Bad idea. As always, Diary of a Wimpy Kid – Big Shot is chocka with Jeff Kinney’s distinctive illustrations.
