Not many kiwis know about our very own dinosaur hunter, Joan Wiffen. As a wife and mother, and with no formal education, Joan fell in love with the study of dinosaurs – palaeontology.

With her family in tow, she searched for dinosaur fossils in a stream in her own province of Hawkes Bay. Dinosaur Hunter tells her story of wonder, determination, and discovery.

This is the latest in a popular picture book series by David Hill and Phoebe Morris about remarkable New Zealanders.

A timeline of Joan’s life is included at the back of the book showing her achievements and discoveries – including surprising scientists who denied NZ had any dinosaurs, accepting international awards for her work and proving our kiwi can-do attitude can once again, amaze the world.
