Ethan has had health issues for most of his life. Now in his mid-teens, he is about to have surgery for a brain tumour. Previously told it was inoperable, this surgery is his last chance. The person that has made this possible is Dr. Penny Cook, a young and brilliant neuroscientist and creator of Gemini – a medical android.
With a storm raging outside the hospital, Gemini has nearly completed the operation when something goes wrong. Or is it right? When Ethan wakes up, he has an amazing gift. He not only understands computers better, he can reach into anything with digital components and ride its code, rewrite instructions given to it, access lists, surf the wi-fi along its currents, and hack into almost anywhere without a trace.
After being so helpless for so long, Ethan feels he can finally do something useful for his parents. Ethan isn’t the only one who feels different after his operation. Gemini – the AI who performed it, is acting beyond its capabilities. It feels curious. It feels wrong after being given orders to kill by his new boss. It knows it isn’t supposed to feel anything.
Ethan and Gemini are now targets, and Dr.Penny Cook is the only one who can help. But Gemini can be reprogrammed, and Ethan and Dr Cook are now in his sights.
