Faelan dreads the imminent future. The wise leader of their wolf pack has died, leaving his son Weylan to step up and take his place. Weylan has been relishing the thought for months, laying threats at Faelan’s feet almost every time they meet.

According to Weylan, Faelan’s chicken and skunk friends will finally be a tasty meal, and Faelan himself will be banished – if he’s lucky. Little does Weylan know that Faelan has also promised his chicken friend Avian to help her allow over 1000 of her chicken family and flock to escape from a local farm and horrendous conditions.

Faelan’s mind is spinning as he tries to work out how he can keep his promise and be at Weylan’s anointing ceremony to (grudgingly) show his respect.

Soon, the ceremony is far from his mind as another enemy emerges from the forest with backup, just as he is leading coaldust-covered chickens to their new home. Smart thinking and courage comes to Faelan’s aid once again as he and his wolf friends battle for their lives.

Finally, truths are revealed about Faelan’s real father, the event that banished a wolf many years before, and how well Weylan is disliked among their pack.

An action-packed, exciting, and fitting finale to this wolf story trilogy – essentially about being proud of who you really are.

Faelan is a wonderful hero – humble, brave and kind, and willing to put himself in terrible danger for others. His father is finally revealed, along with other important truths that will change the wolf pack forever.

I loved the arc of this series, as Faelan comes into his own, not only being proud of himself, but having those around him accept him for who he truly is, against a bully and more influential wolf.

Faelan’s genuine kindness and behaviour helps mold those around him as he risks everything to keep a promise and also help his pack into a possible new future.
