Frankie Fish and his prank pulling best mate Drew Bird aren’t happy being part of the compulsory class choir. Singing in front of an audience of parents and relatives is not something they’ve ever wanted to do. When it’s finally over, Frankie is relieved. At least until his grandfather enters the stage and thanks everybody for coming to his birthday. What? Frankie wants to sneak away and hide from the humiliation.
Frankie learns that his Grandad has early Alzheimers – a disease that will steal Grandad’s memories and the reason he stood on stage that night. Frankie wants to do something. There is no cure for Alzheimers and he feels helpless.
But just because there is no cure now, doesn’t mean there isn’t one at all. Frankie decides to grab his sonic suitcase, his best friend and two cowboy costumes. They are off to the Wild West to find a Native American medicine man called Sparrow Laughing.
Drew is dying to meet an outlaw and collect any real-life Wanted posters for his bedroom back home, but he gets that and a whole lot more in this new time-travel adventure. He is soon on a posted himself – blamed for a bank robbery along with Frankie and a new friend they have made.
The local and popular sheriff is after them and a real life outlaw has them in his sights. All before they even find the medicine man. Can they outwit the outlaw, prove their innocence and find a solution for Grandad before they are pumped full of bullet holes?
This is the 5th story in this series and the first that I have read. Even though there were references to previous books this is totally able to be read on its own.
Frankie Fish and his best mate Drew can time-travel with the help of a sonic suitcase! Clever plotting, funny characters, a clear goal in mind and lots of amusing word play, I’m definitely going to grab earlier stories in this series.
