It’s happening again. The drawing of her body towards the cliff. The shadow of something with glowingGood Boy Book Review Cover eyes slinking against the darkness. Its low threatening growl chills her through to bone, but she cannot move.

It’s the same every night. A nightmare that swallows her whole, leaving her screaming. It begins to take over her days too.

But then there is Rabbie. He knows when the creature begins to stalk her dreams and his growl protects her. Rabbie can’t stay for forever though, and the giant black dog is back.

This story might begin with a little girl and a terrible nightmare, but this seemingly simple novella is anything but. It gripped me quickly and with a sense of impending dread I couldn’t stop reading.

Mal Peet was a master storyteller and Good Boy proves his skills once again. The ending is bloody, heart pumping and unexpected.

Something deliciously malevolent for teen reluctant readers. As always with anything by Mal Peet – Loved it!
