Grandpa loves to cook. In fact he’s amazing in the kitchen.
But he’s also a bit of a klutz and sometimes things go a little haywire.
Today is one of those days and after an amazing time mixing and stirring and baking up a storm he places his creation on his serving trolley.
Oh oh! Grandpa’s feet aren’t behaving themselves on his slippery floor.
Oh oh! Grandpa’s serving trolley is rolling out the door!
It’s off down the hill – holding his giant pavlova!
Grandpa is not only a great cook, but a quick thinker too. With a very helpful puss at the ready, Grandpa has a plan. But is he fast enough?
Never fear! Grandma is right behind, ready to save the day and their pavlova picnic!
Woohoo! What a ride. This is a pure delight to read!
The rhythm and rhyme of this kiwi picture book is perfect.
Grandpa’s cooking exploits are shared. Anticipation builds and lips are licked. What is he up to in the kitchen? His cooking exuberance gets away from him and so does a trolley with his culinary masterpiece.
Excitement builds with every page of this runaway pavlova. Grandad’s solution is unexpected and Grandma’s even more so. I love it how she saves the day yet again, just as she did in their last adventure together – Grandpa Versus Swing.
Read it a second time and watch their cat. Lael Chisholm’s illustrations are hilarious.
