Hattie can’t wait to go to school. She counts down the days until her first day of school. At first she is alarmed at how big some of the other kids are, but she quickly makes friends with others in her class. Finally someone to play with!

Hattie is a likeable character, even though she is quite savvy for her age and full of mischief. If she needs to tell a little lie to get what she needs, it doesn’t bother her much. She’s adventurous, quirky, full of life and questions.

I liked the character of Hattie, as her behaviour is so true-to-life of many young children. Inquisitive, sometimes funny, outspoken, clever in some aspects and juvenile in others, she is just living life at school and home, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Hattie would make a fun read aloud.
