Artie loves his little monster Hodgepodge. Finding an ancient book about making monsters brought Hodgepodge into his life, but Artie’s stepsister Willow wants a monster for herself.
The ingredients for the monster she would like are a little tricky to get hold of, so she and Artie improvise. Just as they are to add the final spell items, they are interrupted. The girl from next door has arrived. Arabella-Rose is waiting for her uncle to pick her up while her parents are out of town. She is to spend the day with Artie and Willow.
Willow is NOT happy. Besides making Willow wait to create a monster of her own, Arabella-Rose thinks too much of herself, is unhappy with the attempts to entertain her, and clashes in their music tastes.
However, Arabella-Rose has something Willow can use in her spell, and she finally gets a monster of her own – well sort of. After another argument, Arabella-Rose mysteriously vanishes. A thorough search for Arabella-Rose puts Artie and Willow where they really shouldn’t be – right under the nose of a Monster Hunter!
Flummox is a new monster with her own special skills. Willow isn’t impressed with her until these skills come to her rescue. Now with a shared love for Monsters, stepbrother and stepsister Artie and Willow have more in common. Big trouble still finds them and help comes from an unexpected source.
A secret door and tunnel adds more intrigue to this monster mix and a Secret Monster Clubhouse is formed. Defeating a past foe needs much courage, and the story ends with a question. Who is the strange boy with a lightning bolt on his head?
Large fonts throughout emphasise thoughts and actions and illustrations appear on nearly every page. Monsters, Mystery and Music are the key makings of this 2nd episode of How to Make a Pet Monster.
