The rivalry between cats and dogs stretches back into forever, and it doesn’t seem to be waning any time soon. And even though dogs have evolved into large and small, the cat has stayed about the same size. But still, the cat (in most homes) rules.
In this bright, colourful picture book this cat also has the power in her favour. At will and at random, this cat wants to come inside, and then wants to go out.
Each time Dog sees Cat’s request he obliges, putting down what he is doing to cater to Cat.
But in, out, in, out, in is starting to bug Dog. His patience is wearing thin and Cat is enjoying every moment. At least until Dog decides, enough is enough!
But was Cat only wanting Dog to go out and play all this time?
Everyone with a cat will know this dance between pet and owner. In, out, up, down, in, out, until patience is frayed.
Illustrator Sarah Jennings portrays Dog’s growing impatience and frustration with his friend Cat, all the while as we ourselves understanding his feelings (if you have your own cat).
Young first readers will also appreciate the few words on each page that they can learn and join in with. The repetition as the tension builds along with Dog’s frustration will also draw the reader in.
But no matter how annoying your own demanding cat is, are they just trying to tell you something?
A fun, bright picture book for young animal lovers.
