There’s a baby on the way!
A small child knows that there is a baby in mummy’s tummy, but isn’t quite sure about things.
They wonder to themselves what it will be like having a new baby around?
They have more questions too. When will it come? Why is mum and dad moving their old cot, and how big will mummy’s tummy get!
And suddenly their new sibling is home and things have changed a little around the house.
There are tons of visitors, and their new sibling is sometimes very loud, and very smelly.
But the new baby is lots of fun too, and will be even more fun as they grow up.
A brilliant book for anyone with babies on the way in their family / whānau in New Zealand.
The story follows a young child’s journey from first learning about a new baby on the way, and then through the different stages and changes that happen in a kiwi household, waiting for the new arrival.
Mum’s tum grows, furniture is moved around in preparation, baby arrives and soon after, lots of visitors.
Mum is tired, dad is extra busy helping out and the older sibling is helping dad where they can.
Donovan Bixley has captured a kiwi family brilliantly with his signature illustration style with full colour single pages and full page spreads.
I love poring over Donovan’s illustrations to find little surprises happening in the background. There are also many things New Zealanders will recognise and when you get to the end of the book, there is a search and find challenge waiting for wee listeners and readers.
