Miles has been Spiderman for a year now. He gets advice when he needs it from Peter Parker, but he’s got most of itMiles Morales Shock Waves Book Review Cover sussed out. Miles can even go one better than the original Spiderman – he can turn invisible at will!

Miles also has a developing Spidersense to oncoming trouble, and soon comes up against two women named Trinity and Vex. He’s still perfecting his spidery web aim and they slip from his grasp, leap off the building and onto a motorbike, which vanishes!

His day is about to get worse – a news bulletin shares a disaster in Puerto Rico. A wave of earthquakes have devastated the island where his mum grew up and where family still lives. Swinging home to family is quickly the only thing on his mind.

Over dinner and relief that family are okay, Miles agrees with his mum and dad that fundraising must be done to help all those who lost everything in the quakes.

Back at school, there’s a new girl and Miles helps her settle in. Before long he is chasing Trinity and Vex again, only this time they have powers of their own. Trying to look after his borough of Brooklyn, keep up with his studies, help with the Quake fundraising and then a friend’s disappearing dad, is all taking its toll on Miles.

Little does Miles know, a mega wealthy businessman is making the most of the quake chaos to not only line his pockets but produce super powers he is going to soon be up against.

From the author of the heart wrenching Young Adult novel Forever ends on a Friday, this Marvel Spiderman Graphic Novel continues the story of Miles Morales who we saw in the amazing animated Into the Spiderverse movie.

Miles is getting this Spidey life sorted with his roomie at Brooklyn Visions Academy helping him with the tech side of things. A new girl will always stir up the mix, especially for smooth Miles, but when her dad goes missing, he knows he has to be Spiderman to really be able to help.

I love the banter between Miles and his roomie Ganke Lee and all the different threads of Miles’ life he is trying to pull together. Spidey service, school, his art, home life, villains and the new girl who is smart, determined and tough.

Pablo Leon’s graphic style tells this story in chapters and captures the action, personalities and multiple strings of the narrative effortlessly, giving a fast paced, intriguing read.
