Jack loves to ask questions.
He loves learning about the world, and is good at answering questions too, as he is always collecting fascinating facts. His mum and dad get
worn out by all his questions, but he has more every day at school and at home.
He loves colours too, sharing all his favourites in squiggles and splotches in art work he gives his mum after school.
There is one question he doesn’t like, and so many people ask it, leaving him a little quiet and overwhelmed.
Mum, Dad, the shopkeeper and his neighbour all ask Jack the same confusing question. “How was your day?”
Jack has no idea how to answer this one. His day is a little bit messy, a little sad, a little bit happy and now a little bit confusing.
Luckily his grandpa understands his problem and with the help of his love of colours, Jack learns a way to answer the trickiest question of all.
Many young children struggle with questions adults ask, especially when there isn’t a yes, no, or straightforward answer. “How was you day?” is quite a complex one when we think about it, but one of the most common things we ask of loved ones, including children.
Not that question again? helps decode that problem for young listeners – providing a way to see it differently.
There is a page of alternate questions for parents, that children may feel are easier to think about and answer.
Author Belinda Blecher has shone a light on a simple day to day saying that can cause confusion in little ones, and provided solutions for both child and adults.
Lisa Allen’s signature style of soft, colourful illustrations, shares a young boy’s day with his family members and a problem he’s not sure what to do about.
A perfect way to see something we all take for granted, from a child’s point of view.
