With some money from Mum, Joe sets off to the ice-cream store. But what to choose? Settling on chocolate with a chocolate flake he can’t wait to taste it. Before he even reaches the door…Splat!

Another is quickly made, but it’s soooo hot he can’t eat it fast enough. It oozes down the cone, his fingers and…Splat!

One more chance is what Joe needs, and mum gives him more coins. Another flavour this time and Joe is careful not to rush or stand in the sun. Again he is cheated from his treat! With no more chances he decides something else might be easier.

We all remember the anticipation of an ice-cream on a hot sunny day, and can all relate to a young boy’s surprise when he is cheated from his treat, again and again. His solution is an even bigger surprise to the reader.

With Lisa Allen’s soft pastel drawings portraying Joe’s day, and Karen Mowbray’s fun, rhyming text, Ooey Gooey Gone is easily relatable to all and a wonderful read aloud for 4+
