What is Royalslinger about?
The 2nd in the Dreamslinger Series, Royalslinger shows main character Aria Love, and her best friends Lion Lee-Hendrick, and Tui Walker embark on their second year of training in the Dreamslinger League.
One of three special powerful items gifted by the gods of this world, has been stolen from the League by Aria’s own mother. This causes much worry as it can wreak havoc in the wrong hands. This theft just increases the suspicion between The League of Dreamslinger, the Freeslingers (her mother’s defected faction), and humans without the Dreamslinger gene.
Once again, Aria learns disturbing things about the faction she has chosen to live within, and must make tough choices. Suddenly she feels she belongs nowhere and is facing homelessness.
She, along with her friends has a dream all Dreamslingers and humans can live peaceably together, but she despairs it will never happen.
Review
When Aria learns terrible things about her chosen home, she must make tough decisions about her future. She sees injustice again and again, and is soon a target herself, which is devastating for her and Dreamslinger invested readers.
Aria is 15 years old in this book, but readers 9+ can enjoy this story with no romance involved, but murder is in the mix. The concept that all is not as it seems continues through the narrative from the 1st book in the series (Dreamslinger), and individuals are included in this thought provoking thread. Those who may look innocent, can be far from it. But Aria’s choice on how she deals with it is important.
The world building of the Dreamslinger‘s training is international among characters from Texas, Korea and New Zealand. I particularly enjoyed Aria’s foray to New Zealand as she recovers from events and learns about Matariki (Māori New Year).
The Dreamslinger world is full of friendship, challenges and choices, and dragon familiars. What’s not to love?!
