Ever since Willow returned from her adventure with the missing day, her magic has been topsy turvy. Instead of making lost things appear, things are disappearing. Some have vanished completely (like her entire town’s spoons), and some only for a short time.

Unexpectedly, Willow receives a letter from a tree. She is shocked by this, but the letter is even more alarming. Her friend Nolan Sometimes has been kidnapped! When she tries to explain to her family that she needs to leave home again, they scoff at her. They never believed the tales she told them of her last adventure, and mention of a talking, moving tree? Preposterous.

But leave Willow does, with her grumpy cat-like kobold monster Oswin grumbling all the way. Willow meets a healing witch who towers over her and knows more about her than she should. She makes a new friend called Hollaway. He’s got a special magic of his own and a strange looking boat that becomes crucial in Willow’s search. Her old friends from her first adventure are back and also a boy called Sprig who can transform into a raven.

Their journey takes them right across Starfell, through the Mists of Malaire and deep down into Netherfell, the underworld of Starfell. Willow has learnt witch history from her beloved granny, and knows all about the war 1000 years before where magic was fought and banned.

Nolan Sometimes kidnapping is part of a new threat on the existence of magic, and Willow has to dig deep to find her own again if she wants to escape Netherfell with all of her friends.

Another wonderful Starfell adventure with a brave heroine and her grumpy, but funny Kobold Monster. He may look like a cat but never speak those words in front of him! With a plethora of black and white illustrations throughout the story, it was easy to get wrapped up in Willow’s adventures again and cheer her on through a much darker side of magic. There will be more to come in this wonderfell series, because there is a lot at stake in Starfell.
