Tasting with your feet? We can’t taste with our feet but some animals can! Humans seem the cleverest of the world’s creatures, but we onlyTasting with your feet Book Review Cover have 5 senses. Animals have so many more. This Non-Fiction picture book for 8+ opens up a world of wonder in the animal kingdom.

Most of us have pretty good eyesight, and can have glasses if we don’t. However, humans only have one lens in their eye. Although our eyes are amazing parts of our bodies, their complexity second only to our brains – we still only see the seven colours of the rainbow.

There are creatures with over 20,000 lenses in their eyes, others with eyes at the front of their heads and at the side, and another that can see colours in the dark.

Our ears are strange shapes on the sides of our head – designed to capture sounds that travel inside our ears and onto our brains – all in milliseconds.

But it’s a tiny winged creature that has the most powerful ears in the animal kingdom, let alone the animals that hear sounds too high for us to hear, or use sound bouncing off things to stop them bumping into things in the pitch dark – all while flying fast.

Smelling stinky feet or rotten eggs or poo on the bottom of your shoe might be awful, but compared to a pig, shark or even a mosquito, our noses are nowhere near the best.

Animals can also taste and feel better than we can, and also have super senses such as superior balance and a safety mechanism in the way they fall.

Learn more about the super sonic senses of the animal kingdom in Ned Barraud’s new book – Tasting With Your Feet.

Throughout the book in detailed and colourful illustrations, eyes, ears, noses, tongues, and touch are first shown as humans experience them. The following section shows the same sense in the animal kingdom – explaining the differences, which can be bizarre, and sometimes spectacular.

We see the world one way, and this book gives readers an insight on how the animal kingdom sees theirs.
