Honey is a very hardworking ant. Although she loves her work and her nest with hundreds of other farmer ants, she is missing someone. Farmer ants are all
girls, all doing the mushroom farm work, protecting the hive and digging any tunnels needed. Boy ants must leave the hive and never return, and Honey wonders if she’ll ever see her friend Glasswing again.
Meanwhile, another creature that looks very much like a farmer ant, has been watching the nest. His name is Loafer, and he loves to sneak into nests and live among ants – at least until his true identity is discovered. Honey’s nest looks great, and Loafer hatches a plan…
Not far away is another ant nest. These ants are bigger, stronger and a whole lot more aggressive than farmer ants. On a report of an ant nest close by that has all the soldier ants need, they too hatch a plan to get inside Honey’s home.
Suddenly under attack by large, vicious soldier ants, Honey’s friends and family are surprised and scared. They are used to their rigid routine which achieves all they need. Will breaking their rules and routines be the answer to all their problems?
From Turkey, The Ant Rebellion is now published in New Zealand for children 7+.
Very popular in its home country, The Ant Rebellion is a clever mix of exciting story and science as readers learn about the life of ants. There are workers, warriors and everything in between, as these clever communities of insects go about their day.
The story tension slowly builds, with laughs along the way, as different ant colonies suddenly clash. Themes of partnership, working together, and rising up against injustice to achieve better lives for everyone, shine in this junior novel.
