Edward is anxious about his first day at (knight) school. But he has pulled his armour on to make sure he stays safe among all the ogres and dragons he is worrying about.
At first he hides at the back of the (great hall) classroom, and is terribly shy when asked by the (king) teacher to tell them a bit about himself.
At lunchtime, Edward keeps to himself, far from any dangerous dragons or ogres – until one sits next to him. She even offers to share a pretty cake! Then some dragons ask if he wants to play.
What should he do? Will he be safe? Surely his armour will do its job? He so wants someone to play with. At first the armour works too well, until he begins to have fun!
Quick Review
Fears of new situations like the first day of school can make children shy, worried, and keen to keep to themselves. The battle to keep up a protective front or ‘armour’ is a challenging one, preventing friendships and positive connections. This story shows these universal fears in a fun way, with a dragons, kings and Knight School concept.
