Artemis Fowl has younger brothers – twins in fact. One, like Artemis, is a genius. Myles likes nothing more than learning and spouts lyrical at anyone who will listen. That’s usually his twin Beckett, who usually isn’t listening. Beckett couldn’t be more opposite to his brainy brothers if he tried. Beckett is charged with energy – all the time.
If he needs to get from A to B, Bennett will not walk or take the path provided. Beckett will leap, jump, climb anything and anywhere without a speckle of fear. As Beckett likes to say, Myles is the thinker, Beckett is the doer!
One evening, not far from their home, Beckett was being his usual craziness, attempting to talk to a seal, and Myles is trying to convince his brother that they needed to return home for maximum sleep hours for brain enhancement. Just then, a troll, after breaking through the earth’s mantle and swimming to the surface with a herculean effort, appeared between the twins.
The troll or the twins didn’t realise that an extremely wealthy, but devious and dastardly Duke was close-by and about to fire his specially built weapon at the troll in order to capture it for his plan of immortality. At the exact same time, a Lower Elements Police Specialist was in training. This training included protection of any magical beings (The People), so when the troll was hit by the Duke’s shrinkwrap gun, and Beckett grabbed it, thinking it was a toy – The Specialist (named Lazuli) stepped in. But so did the twin’s house, which had been left to guard the boys while their mum was out. The house (named NANNI) sent out extraction drones to save the boys.
While this is happening… a Spanish Nunterragator (Secret Agent Nun named Jeronima), arrives to rescue them.
Confused? All is revealed in this madcap, bounce around narrative of humour, science, sibling love and evil villains smoothie – which is anything but smooth.
This is the first in a new series of these genius but completely ‘out-there’ brothers, who are building even more links to the magical world of fairy, pixels, and trolls.
