Eve has a great idea for Halloween. She has discovered a map in her uncle’s things. It points the way to an old house in a forest, andThe House in the Woods Book Review Cover combined with a Ouija board purchased off the internet, will make a spooky Halloween for her and her best friends, Tom and Clovis.

The three young teens tell their parents they will be trick or treating nearby, when in fact they are jumping on a train to get to their ‘haunted house’.

Clovis is a budding scientist and all around facts geek, also deemed the cynic in their group, second-guessing everything. Tom is into his football and avoiding his overbearing father at home, and Eve lives with her loving but sometimes eccentric inventor uncle who has always kept his inventions and workshop to himself. He will be crazy-mad if he knew what they are about to do.

Clovis of course scoffs at the whole thing, but when finally huddled around the Ouija board, with their fingers on the glass in the centre, they call on any ghosts nearby. It’s not long before they wish they hadn’t.

“HELP ME!”

Something follows them all home.

There is no hiding the paranormal behaviour of home telephones and tvs or bloody footprints in the hall, from their parents. Soon they are relieved to finally reveal what they’ve done to Eve’s Uncle. Yep, she was right – he goes ballistic. Then, he reveals a secret of his own.

They now know they all have to help someone, or something, before life can go back to normal.

This is a spooky story that involves young and old, then and now, and not just one wronged ghost, but many who believe they are still alive. Three close friends are keen to do something scary for Halloween not realising they are opening a doorway to the other side.

This is the first in a series written by a UK television presenter, producer and actress and also someone who has experienced much paranormal activity herself. She has based some of the events in the book on her own paranormal experiences.

There is intrigue, mystery, secrets, spies and historical figures in this novel, perfect for fans of anything spooky, jump scares and all things other worldly.
