Amy Taylor loves cars. Especially classic James Bond type cars, and her mum’s transit van. Why the van? Because ever since a terrible car accident, Amy has been in a wheelchair. Her mum got the transit van modified with a ramp so Amy can drive her wheelchair up and in!
What Amy would love do to more than anything, is really drive. Her old wheelchair is becoming more and more like a stroppy supermarket trolley, and impossible to wheel straight. To her relief, Amy finally gets a new wheelchair. With her Dad’s help they have been able to buy an expensive motorised chair. Amy loves it, but it’s top speed is only 2 miles an hour.
Wouldn’t it be cool if it was faster? Amy’s friend Rahul is always tinkering, dabbling and designing new things and he offers her some help. Voila! The new wheelchair has become the Taylor Turbochaser. Amy loves whizzing around in it, but how is she going to tell her mum? What will her Dad say?
Amy is a positive. determined and resourceful girl, so she decides she is going to have to prove to her disapproving parents that the Taylor Turbochaser deserves to stay. But that means showing her dad in person – who lives in Scotland – hundreds of miles away…
If you like David Walliams, Funny Kid or just an exciting read, you’ll enjoy this story of a girl, determined to have a positive outlook, besides the fact she is in a wheelchair, has a very annoying teenage brother, and her parents don’t live together any more.
Amy’s friends are keen for adventure and ready to help her in her quest to prove herself to her parents. This is a great tale about following your dreams, even if it is a little scary (and bonkers), at the same time, with tons of B & W illustrations throughout.
Fun read!
