You know that something special is going to happen in this book as soon as you open the cover. The Trip Book Review Cover

A collection of items are laying next to a child’s open lunchbox on a tasseled yellow blanket. What’s really intriguing is the bowl of dogfood alongside and a backdrop of stars and the planet Earth far away…. Where are we off to, and with who?

A girl stands inside her bedroom, showing a dog a blackboard. The blackboard is showing an imaginative adventure in the planning. Together they put together what they will need. Dog food, a packed lunchbox, and water to share.

Yours. Mine. Ours.

Beside a home-made rocket pod, they also take the dog’s ball, and the girl’s camera. The pod lifts in the air.

Yours. Mine. Ours.

Each page shows each stage of their amazing adventure together, with only three words on each page spread.

Told from the point of view of the young girl, she labels her animal companion – You. Herself – Me, and of course them together as Us, or Yours, Mine and Ours.

With an unexpected discovery of new friends, You, Me and Who? are ventured into, and the wonder of the universe is celebrated.

Paul Beavis’ gorgeous signature illustration style clearly shares this space adventure, exploring inclusiveness, sharing and friendship.

The Trip is simple and clever at the same time, leaving a smile on my face.
