The tide is in and water fills the harbour, but what will we find when the Tide’s Out…?Tide's Out Tai Timu Book Review Cover

Three children are beachcombing together and they find many things common on New Zealand beaches.

There are shells and seaweed, seeds and feathers.

Crabs scuttle, and sea anemones lay in their shallow pools. There is much to see.

Seemingly in no time at all, the water creeps back in over their feet!

Tide’s Out Tai Timu is not just an adventure of discovery down a beach, but a clear, water-coloured counting book in both English and te reo, with even more beach life portrayed in the back that can be used in a search activity on the next beach trip. Can you spot them all?

Based around a book shared with the author’s grandchildren on each visit and trip along the beach, it has been transformed into a bilingual picture book / non-fiction creation to share across New Zealand. Many children have grown up exploring rock pools in their holidays and this book is something to add to that tradition.

Out 16 November 2022.
