Chegwin Toffle’s parents sit him down to give him some startling news. They know it won’t be an easy thing to do. Not because the news is terrible, but because they know Chegwin finds it incredibly difficult to keep his mind focussed on anything for very long.
Chegwin is constantly in trouble at school for not listening in class. He can’t help it! Besides his teacher being extreeeemly boring, random thoughts are constantly popping into Chegwin’s head, things like:
What would it be like to live inside a fridge?
Why don’t penguins wear gumboots?
and all manner of strange things. When his mum finally gets him (and his dad who is just as bad at Chegwin), to focus, they finally tell him he has inherited a hotel called Toffle Towers. The only problem is that its about to close down because it hasn’t had any guests for some time. All the staff will lose their jobs and they will have to claim bankruptcy.
Chegwin, being the imaginative, kind and caring boy that his parents had raised him to be, and although only 10 years of age, decides then and there that he will do anything to save Toffle Towers!
With his wild imagination, risky choices and a major mistake or two, Chegwin and his loyal staff are up against a swanky, newer hotel, a very limited budget, a bored caretaker and an aristocrat butler’s age-old feud, and a mystery to boot. A little bit zany, Chegwin is a likeable character in this enjoyable story. A mysterious ending takes the reader straight into the next episode in this funny series, but this can be read on its own as its own complete story if need be. Really enjoyed it!
