Libby knows she’s a little different from her classmates. She loves Science more than anything else, her best friend is the school library, and her ears are not quite in the right place. Her neck and chin look a little odd too. Libby has a rare condition called Turner Syndrome, but has a wonderful family around her.

Now Libby’s big sister is expecting a baby, Libby wants to do something that gives back to her family, for all the love and support she has had over her 12 years, in and out of hospital. She worries for her big sister and her brother-in-law who has to work far away, and even though she tries to stop them, tiny thoughts sneak in about the baby having the same syndrome she has.

But Libby has made a deal with someone very important. This deal is everything to Libby even though it means a lot of work, a huge amount of convincing, and a wish so big, it envelops her whole world.

She understands how huge the Universe is, and she’s asking a lot, but when key names and dates line up with her plan, she feels she is on the right track. Could she, like the important people in her school textbook, actually make a change in others lives?

This is a wonderful story about the love between siblings, self esteem and being proud of who you are as an individual. Libby is an authentic 12 year old holding a secret wish to herself that must come true. The only problem is, if it doesn’t come true, what then? Will it be all her fault?

Libby is smart, and as she tells you her story, she explains things about herself and her life in a clear way that is not only easy to understand, but interesting too. She explains the genetics of Turner Syndrome, and I also learnt about where wishing on a star originated, and also of course, all about Cecilia Payne. She is just one of thousands that discovered something, invented something or changed the world in a positive way, but was not recognised at the time. Lovely story.
