Dad gets a terrible shock when looking in the mirror one morning. His hair, which had been quite happy on his head for his entire life, decides to have an adventure.
So it gathers itself up and leaps off his head. Dad quickly springs into action and races after it. He is polite at first, asking his hair nicely to come back to his head. But it has tasted freedom and refuses to listen! It flies around the house, avoiding Dad’s attempts to round it up.
Mum comes to see what the fuss is about and Dad’s hair sees its chance – it escapes out the door into the world outside!
All over town the hair flies, with Dad close behind. Inside, outside, round and round shops and the zoo. What is Dad going to do?
But alas, Dad never gets close and he finally accepts from now on he is to be bald. He does get some lovely postcards from around the world however, His hair is having a wonderful time away.
Maybe one day Dad’s hair will return home…..?
Another gem from Gecko Press, this is a hilarious story about wayward hair. We all lose a little hair, but Dad loses his, all in one swoop.
An imaginative story with wonderful muted colour illustrations, When Dad’s Hair Took Off will delight emerging readers and also be a great read aloud before bed.
Gecko books always have high production values and this early chapter read is no different. Would make an excellent gift, and being lots of laughter.
