Izzy has a great uncle named Arthur, and he’s pretty cool to have around. He’s got some cool stories too, but she’s not quite sure how true they are?
He seems to have had a lot of crazy things happen to him when he was young, which he will always bring up when something goes wrong for Izzy.
When she falls off his scooter, he grabs a plaster and tells her about the time he crashed his go-kart down a hill. He’s got stories of giant crabs, piles of dishes metres high, and no toilet paper. There are raging bulls, flying spears and missing toes and ears!
“You don’t know how lucky you are!”
exclaims Uncle Arthur. But soon there are more Izzy disasters and she can return his favourite saying to her favourite Uncle.
We all have heard of or have a family member just like Izzy’s Great Uncle Arthur – with tall tales that get taller in the telling.
This bilingual (English / Māori picture book is full of these family stories. Illustrator Ross Kinnaird’s funny renditions will make readers laugh out loud at Arthur’s antics.
A friendly chicken is along for the tall tales too – Something for the littlies to spot on every page.
