Frenemies Jimmy Cook and Alice Toole have just realised that they have birthday parties planned, and invitations sent out to their entire class – on the same day!

So begins the letters back and forth with reasons why the other should re-schedule their party. Alice’s letters are filled with little drawings of unicorns and flowers and fruit and animals, and Jimmy’s letters are plain and straight to the point.

Alice is the goody-goody in the class, with the most gold stars from their teacher, and Jimmy has none because of his constant crazy antics. Just when they decide on a plan to finally decide who gets the date they both want – their teacher goes on a course, leaving them with a substitute teacher who has no idea how the classroom operates.

Will Jimmy and Alice ever decide? Will their teacher ever return? Will their classmates have to choose between them?
