Bumblebee is a beautifully illustrated rhyming picture book, showing the life of a bumblebee. We meet her in her happy place, buzzing through colourful gardens, eating nectar and pollen and pollinating other plants along the way.

When cooler weather comes, the reader learns where bumblebees go while they wait for warm weather again. But this Bumblebee is in trouble when she emerges. Luckily there is a child who is learning about nature that comes to her rescue.

There are so many layers to this picture book. There is life as a Bumblebee, the seasons of the year, and a plethora of emotions from happiness, confusion, sadness and then hope and joy once more. Then there is the deftly handled environmental theme underpinning it all – all seamlessly woven through rhyme and illustration through a joyful story.

Bees are one of the most important creatures we have on Earth, and this book will aid in the understanding and protection of them. A double page spread at the back of the book explains Bumblebees and Pollination in more detail.
